VIDEO: Triple Peak via the North Ridge

Seven of us from the Alpine Club of Canada made our way up Triple Peak last weekend.

This is a 1525m peak near Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. We attempted to follow the North Ridge route, but the snow conditions made things a bit challenging.

Stay tuned until the end for a mildly amusing out take.

Yes, I am trying video out for the first time! Here’s why:

Sometimes we adventurers only show photos of our toughest, scariest moments. I am guilty of this. I want to seem very badass and brave!

But for most of us amateurs, climbing is also a lot about a lot more: working together, fun, friendship, boredom of waiting your turn, catching your breath, dealing with disappointment. I wanted to try to capture some of this as well.

I also write this blog is to help climbing feel more accessible to people who ordinarily wouldn’t give it a go. This trip was led by a woman and half of us on the trip were women. Half of us learned our mountaineering skills in the past three years.

With that said, this is not a beginner route!

For tips to make your own adventure a safe one:

You will need an ice axe, crampons, helmet and know how to use them. You may also need a harness, rope, belay device and other equipment.

I love being outdoors, especially in the mountains. I live on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada.
